OMTRA Public Meeting 15th Nov 2022 Summary

Crime from Oct. One theft of a vehicle outside Trent stores.

Small team: 3 police officers and 1 PCSO. Response team for the wider area.

No large drug dealing hotspots reported on the radar. Issue at Lothmore Court.

Extra funding for reassurance patrols. Every day between 4-10pm. Will continue as long as the trial continues.

Warrant on Phoenix Close. Recovered controlled drugs. Working with NCH on an eviction.

This week is Op Sceptre. Weapon sweep on Embankment. Discovered a discarded knife.

ASB patrols in the Bridgeway in response to issues with kids.

Council have found money for extra cameras. Previous cameras were old, insufficient quality and quantity. New cameras much better. Feeding straight into Woodlands. Going from 2 cameras to 9 cameras. 2 recommended to be dealing with tipping.

Question from member of public about facial recognition.

Another member of the public concerned about drug dealing moving from one area to another. “Same people time and again”. Evidence sent. Children growing up dealing. RH feedback that drug dealing is one of the top priorities for the areas.

A resident commented that he feels more safe in the Meadows than at a previous location in London.

Another resident asked about location of police station. Police shared that work is underway for police to move into fire station April 1st 2023. Yellow phone outside.

RH offered to share report tomorrow (16th Nov). Received.

Michael Edwards – Councillors’ Report

Resident asked about space for vehicles at Fire station. ME replied that there will be enough space for operational cars but not necessarily for commuting officers’ vehicles.

Another resident asked about response times. Nicola highlighted that the move wasn’t just about response times but also about the proximity of Neighbourhood Protection.

A resident asked about whether money is in place for the paddling pool. ME confirmed.

Another resident asked about whether a consultation has taken place on the design. ME confirmed that there had been an initial consultation but that there would be a further consultation to come on design.

Wilford Grove to be resurfaced next April.

Domestic Waste

· One resident concerned about where more bins will be stored. Also concerned about rats.

· One resident concerned about young people not recycling enough.

· One resident asked about the proportion of waste recycled under the current system.

· One resident asked why people on benefits have to pay the fee to get a new bin when previous bin was stolen. Advice is to treat thefts as a criminal matter and report to police.

· ME understood that food recycling worked well before. Interested in residents’ views.

· One resident interested to know at how it will work for flats. ME says that the consultation concerns houses only and that flats will be separate.

One resident wanted to know whether leaf clearance had started yet. It was confirmed that Tony Bamford (Neighbourhood Operations Manager) had said that it had started. SA reported having seen a blower on the end of Glapton Road nearest the fields.

Planning application on Wallet Street (near fire station).

One resident asked what is going to be done to improve facilities in the area with an increase in population. ME highlighted that information was available online and that he publishes more information than any other councillor.

Election

Nicola Heaton presided over the elections.

Naeem Rashid nominated self for chair. Not seconded.

Mary Cameron was nominated, seconded and voted by a majority to be Chair.

Pat Greenwell was nominated, seconded and voted by a majority to be Secretary.

Simon Allen was nominated, seconded and voted by a majority to be Treasurer.

John Crosby will continue as a committee member.

Two other members of the public expressed interest in joining the committee. Emails captured for follow up contact.

Margo Bohaz - Meadows Action Group

Group exists to do positive things in the community.

Litter picking monthly.

Easter egg hunt. 300 eggs donated.

Queen’s Jubilee event. 400 attendees.

Next meeting 18:30 at the Portland at 21st November.


One resident raised a concern about bottles and cans not being put in bins. Suggested signs could be put up to encourage proper disposal of litter.
